What problem does this feature solve?

Add an option for labels to hide them when text is overlapping, it's possible to use series-pie.label.overflow with a value 'hide' .
Example of labels to hide:

What does the proposed API look like?

series-pie.label.overflow='hide'

Looks like it only works for example case,but not for pie charts itself
